I'm mad.  Not the typical Wendy Bell, easily provoked/looking for a cause kind of mad.  Just mad.  MAD!  And frustrated.
Returning home from spring break I learned that the husband of the FKSCC reservation board member was killed in Iraq.  He leaves behind a young wife with a 2-yr. old and a 3-yr. old.  My first thought should have been for the family, but it wasn't.  My first thought was about the Westboro Baptist Church and my sincere hope that they will not cause distraction for Becky and her friends and family.

That I even had to consider them, much less think of them first, completely infuriates me!  The ONLY consideration I care to give members of the Westboro Baptist Church is prayer to the God I serve, who is a God of grace, to intervene in their hearts and souls causing them to flee from their own wicked ways!
And, not that the Westboro Baptist Church cares what this military wife has to say, I have a few random thoughts regarding their beliefs and actions:
  •     You lose all credibility when the only message you have is one of judgement and hate.  Is there anyone, other than Westboro Baptist Church Members, you won't picket and/or harass?
  • Your poor children!
  • What Bible does the Westboro Baptist Church deliver it's messages from?  Aren't there also messages of hope, grace, comfort....as well?  (If so, clearly they don't suit your purpose which begs the question, whose message are you preaching, anyway?  Certainly not God!  Yours???)
  • We are all entitled to have our own thoughts, feelings and opinions.  In fact, it is the very military men and women who your organization speaks out against who risk their lives daily to guarantee this gift of freedom to even you.  They do this with courage and honor.
  • Jesus has already died on the cross for me...you too, in fact!  My sinful debt is already paid in full...thank you, Jesus!
  • Even the Ku Klux Klan has denounced the Westboro Baptist Church...how crazy do you have to be for that to happen?
  • ALL have sinned and fall short of the glory of God...
  • Decisions and laws regarding this country are made and clarified in our nation's capital, Washington D.C. ... file the proper permits and picket/protest for the lawmakers, not at the funerals of our fallen soldiers.  (Of course, it won't make much of a difference as the Westboro Baptist Church is largely viewed as an organization of opinion and hate, but at least the families and friends of our fallen heroes can grieve properly.  Protesting at funerals doesn't change anything...it is selfish of Westboro Baptist Church to do so.)
I could continue, but already too much energy has been wasted here.  I am proud of my soldier husband.  I am grateful for my freedoms.  I miss those we have lost on the battlefield.

John 3:16  "For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life."
